Many of Debbie’s individual clients struggle with anxiety and depression as a result of taking care of everyone else and ignoring their own needs. This often happens because the person is codependent, a people pleaser, who does not know how to say “no” to anyone. Individual counseling addresses the issues that underlie this way of thinking and being, but the guilt that people experience and the resistance they receive from family and friends when they begin to change can make it difficult to stay committed to the change necessary to see lasting results and feel better. Debbie’s therapy group, called AMP (Accountability, Motivation, Perseverance), enables these individuals to come together, share their experiences, listen to the experience of others, and get support and encouragement that empowers and strengthens their resolve to make positive changes in their lives. The group meets on Monday nights for 1 ½ hours.
